iOS 26 introduces a significant overhaul of the user interface, the likes of which haven’t been seen since iOS 7. As is customary with Apple, the devil is in the details, and there are plenty of details to uncover! Here’s a rundown of some of the features and changes we’ve noticed in the system.
- Home Bar: The horizontal bar that used to appear at the bottom of almost all apps in previous versions of iOS, facilitating swipe gestures to close or switch apps, now vanishes after a brief appearance.
- Satellite Weather: iOS 26 is expected to offer weather updates via satellite when you are not connected to a mobile network. This feature is not yet available in the first beta, but should be coming soon (in countries that are already covered by satellite functionality).
- Alarms: You can now customize the snooze duration to enjoy a little extra sleep in the morning.
- Camera: If your camera lens is dirty, iOS will notify you.
- Dictation: In English, you can now spell out a word or name if necessary.
- Messages: You can now select specific parts of text within a message bubble, rather than being forced to copy and paste the entire text.
- Group Messages: An indicator now appears to show when someone is responding, and an “add contact” button has been added for adding people not already in your contacts list.
- Message Filtering: If you have the unknown message filtering feature activated, you now have more options. You can allow messages that contain a specific time, messages from businesses, transactions such as payment receipts, or promotions. Each category can be enabled as desired.
- Blocked Contacts: You can access a list of blocked contacts in the Privacy and Security section of the Settings.
- Automatic Payment Filling: You can now manage credit card autofill settings directly in the Wallet app. Apple has added options to include a new payment, change the expiration date, or switch payment methods.
- Reminders: A button has been added to the Control Center for quick access to Reminders.
- Notes: You can now export a note in Markdown format.
- Apple Music: A new feature allows you to create folders for your playlists.
- Night Mode: In Sounds and Haptics, Apple has added a “night” mode.
- Microphone Selection: Also in Sounds and Haptics, there is now an option to manually select the active microphone.
- Battery: Your iPhone will alert you if your battery usage is higher than usual, showing which apps are consuming the most energy. You can also view charging time in the Battery section of the settings and on the lock screen.
- Remove Transparency: You can now disable the transparency effects in iOS 26 via the accessibility settings.
Many more details are likely to be discovered in the coming days and throughout the beta phases. If you find any additional features, feel free to mention them in the comments!
