New Satellite-Based Feature Discovered in iPhone’s Latest iOS Beta
Apple is reportedly developing a new functionality that utilizes the iPhone’s satellite capabilities. In the first beta version of iOS 26, which was launched last night, MacWorld uncovered a reference to a feature named “Weather Updates via Satellite.” This function can be activated in the absence of Wi-Fi or cellular connections. Details are scarce, but the capability to receive weather alerts through this feature could prove invaluable for planning outdoor activities in remote areas with no usual network coverage.
Apple did not officially announce this feature during last night’s release, indicating that it is still under development. It is likely that this feature will be rolled out in a subsequent update to iOS 26, potentially this fall or next year. Meanwhile, another Apple product is expected to receive satellite capabilities soon: the Apple Watch Ultra 3, set to be introduced in September.
