Upcoming HomePod Mini 2 to Forgo N1 Chip

According to leaked source code information reported by MacRumors, the upcoming revision of the HomePod mini 2 will not feature Apple’s N1 chip. The code for the new HomePod mini 2 “mentions the ‘Sunrise’ wireless system, which is the name Apple has given to the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi chips supplied by MediaTek. The N1 is referred to as ‘Centauri’ in Apple’s internal systems.” This revelation seems to contradict the claims made by Mark Gurman, who has been asserting since last year that Apple’s first internally designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip would debut in the next generation of HomePod mini and Apple TV.

Delayed Launch Expected in Early 2026

Initially anticipated this fall, the release of the revised HomePod mini has been postponed due to the American shutdown, with expectations now set for an early 2026 launch. The upcoming model is rumored to transition from the S5 chip to the S10 chip. Notably, the S10 chip does not support local Apple Intelligence processing—relying instead on remote computing capabilities—which highlights the potential significance of the N1 chip. Additionally, the new HomePod mini is expected to offer enhanced audio quality and be available in new colors.
