New HomePod Mini Model in Development

Apple is reportedly working on an updated version of the HomePod mini, and a snippet of code discovered by MacRumors has revealed the presence of a T8310 processor, which is the same chip used in the upcoming S9, S10, and S11 models of the Apple Watch set to launch in September. Consequently, the second-generation HomePod mini will feature one of these three chips. Currently, the existing HomePod mini is equipped with an S5 chip and comes with 1 GB of RAM.

Potential New Features and Capabilities

It remains to be seen whether Apple will introduce new features that utilize this increased processing power, and much may depend on the amount of RAM included in the new device. Compatibility with Apple Intelligence, including an upcoming version of Siri expected in the spring, is still uncertain for local processing. However, Apple may choose to rely on processing carried out by a nearby device… Coincidentally, a new Apple TV featuring an A17 Pro chip has also been spotted. According to Mark Gurman, the new HomePod model may also include Apple’s first internally developed chip dedicated to handling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. New color options may also be introduced.

Anticipated Launch Timing

The announcement of this new model is expected by the end of this year. The reveal could occur as early as Apple’s September event or might be delayed until later in the fall through a press release.
