Apple Plans New HomePod and HomePod Mini 2: Here’s What We Know!

Apple is reportedly planning to launch a third generation of the HomePod along with a second generation of the HomePod mini this year, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed during a Q&A session. Until now, the majority of speculations had centered around the HomePod mini 2. However, after hinting this Sunday that the larger HomePod model might also be updated, Gurman has now explicitly confirmed: yes, Apple will refresh both models of its smart speakers simultaneously.

Launch Date and Delays

As for the release date, the new products are unlikely to hit the market before fall 2026 at the earliest, partly due to current inventory issues. Apple is waiting for the rollout of its new version of Siri, which is why the launch has been continually postponed. According to Gurman, the new models of the HomePod and Apple TV have been physically ready since last year! The latest news suggests that this Siri overhaul, powered by Gemini, will finally be unveiled at WWDC on June 8, followed by a summer-long beta version, aiming for a release in September with iOS 27.

Integration of New Siri Technologies in HomePod

It remains to be seen how Apple will implement support for the new Siri on the HomePod. In the current framework of Apple Intelligence, a minimum of 8 GB of RAM is required. It is known that the new Apple TV 4K is expected to switch to the A17 Pro chip which includes the necessary RAM (and also features the N1 chip for managing Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, and Thread network), but it is doubtful that this will be the case with the HomePod, which has a less powerful chip. Could the HomePod, also receiving the N1 chip, rely on the computational power of a nearby Apple TV to enable this compatibility? Another possibility is that the anticipated home automation display, expected in September, could serve a similar function. According to Mark Gurman, Apple has planned two other improvements for the HomePod mini: a new higher-quality audio system and new color options.
