While WhatsApp already impressed with 12 new features in April, many of which were related to video, Mark Zuckerberg’s messaging app is expected to continue its innovative streak.
The Stakes for Meta AI
In a recent Thursday announcement on Meta’s website, the company unveiled four upcoming features for WhatsApp. As competitors like Signal and Telegram continue to grow, particularly by incorporating AI tools, WhatsApp aims to maintain its lead. However, Meta’s introduction of these new features likely also stems from the company’s desire to further develop Meta AI.
Just a few days ago, Meta’s CEO announced that the company had already attracted one billion monthly users to its artificial intelligence platform, a significant portion of whom are WhatsApp users. By focusing more on instant messaging, Meta could encourage more users to engage with its AI technologies.
Layout, Integrated Photo Collages on WhatsApp
Among the new WhatsApp features, the Layout tool will allow users to share photo collages more easily. While this was already possible by downloading third-party apps, users will now be able to create assemblies of up to six photos without leaving the app.
More with Music, Sharing Your Musical Preferences
With the More With Music feature, WhatsApp aims to make it easier to share your favorite artists and songs. The app will allow you to add a song to your status, on a musical sticker, or within a post. Although Meta has not yet specified whether this feature will work with third-party solutions like Spotify, Apple Music, or Deezer in the French market, it is possible that WhatsApp will integrate connections with these applications.
Photo Stickers, Adding Stickers to Your Status
If you love using WhatsApp statuses, the Photo Stickers feature is for you! This feature will allow you to transform a photo into a sticker of any size and shape you choose, then add it directly to your status.
Add Yours, Sharing Event Photos
The Add Yours feature, which could be translated to “Add Your Own,” will enable users to respond to others’ photos with their own photos. Although Meta remains somewhat vague about the specifics of how these features will be used, this one could be very useful for gathering multiple photos of a specific moment during an event, or for choosing between several photos.
