Switching mobile plans always comes with some costs, but SFR and RED are now offering a bit of help to make the move easier, potentially persuading those who are still undecided.
For the past few months, RED by SFR has been actively trying to attract users with competitively priced mobile plans. In April, the provider launched a 5G plan costing only €6.99 per month for 100 GB of data, with no fixed term. Amidst a general trend of rising prices, this strategy has positioned RED as a cost-effective alternative to the traditional telecom giants. Now, SFR and its budget-friendly brand have introduced a new incentive to encourage switching providers by directly addressing the often-overlooked minor costs.
Recently, SFR started offering partial reimbursement of the cancellation fees charged by a customer’s previous provider. This offer is available to new customers who sign up for an SFR or RED mobile plan within 60 days after cancelling their old service. The reimbursement is capped at €5, which, though modest, is symbolic. Free Mobile had previously implemented a similar initiative to ease the number transfer process. With this move, the operator is aligning itself with a broader industry trend. It doesn’t cover all possible charges, but it helps mitigate some of the costs associated with switching to a new provider.
SFR Makes Switching Providers Easier with a Focus on Fees and Portability
The process of changing providers is further simplified through the number retention system. By calling 3179 for free, users receive their RIO code via SMS, enabling SFR to handle the cancellation automatically. This method eliminates the need for formalities with the previous provider, such as sending registered letters. Users keep their number and the transfer occurs without any interruption of service.
Although the amount reimbursed is limited, this new initiative strengthens RED and SFR’s aggressive pricing strategy. By combining discounts on their plans, offering no-contract options, and assisting with cancellation fees, RED and SFR are clearly aiming to attract a broader audience. Those who were previously hesitant to switch providers over a few euros in fees now have one less reason to stay put.
