The Kindle Colorsoft 2026 is a fantastic e-reader, with a frontlit screen complete with night mode, an IPX8 rating, and 8 weeks of battery life.

Could the Kindle Colorsoft 2026 be among the top e-readers available today? Absolutely. It proudly assumes the throne as the premier choice for e-reader enthusiasts, boasting a vibrant 7-inch screen that exceeds its closest competitor, the Kobo Clara Color, by one inch. Additionally, it offers an impressive battery life lasting up to 8 weeks, establishing its staying power in the market.

However, its royal status comes with a royal price tag. The Kindle Colorsoft 2026 costs $90 more than the Kobo alternative, a 56% price hike. While the expansive Kindle library and the superior Kindle Unlimited service add value, these features alone may not fully justify the steep increase in price, which could deter potential new users considering its starting price of over $250.

Despite its premium cost, the Kindle Colorsoft 2026 excels as an e-reader. My experience with this device was thoroughly enjoyable. It’s user-friendly, attractive, and the display is exceptionally clear and colorful, perfect for comic book fans. Read on for a detailed review of the Kindle Colorsoft 2026.

Kindle Library

Two versions of the Kindle Colorsoft 2026 are available: a 16GB model and a 32GB model. I reviewed the 16GB version, which can store nearly 6,000 books depending on their length and content. The 16GB model is priced at $249 on Amazon U.S. and £239 on Amazon U.K. The 32GB model costs an additional $30/£30, priced at $279 in the U.S. and £269 in the U.K.

Additionally, Kindle offers the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, which is distinct from this model. If you are interested in the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, it is available for $279 on Amazon U.S., interestingly at the same price. The Signature model features automatic brightness adjustments and supports wireless charging.

I had recently reviewed the Kobo Clara Colour, priced at $159/£169. If you are looking for a high-quality e-reader without spending much, the Kobo would be a wise choice. Despite having a smaller library compared to the Kindle Store’s vast collection of nearly 15 million titles, including a wide array of self-published works, I found every book I wanted on the Kobo store.

The Kindle Colorsoft Gen 1, released in 2024, had a launch price of $279/£269, and I appreciate that there has been no price increase for the new model.

There are numerous aspects to admire about the Kindle Colorsoft 2026, from its responsive performance and sharp display to its extensive library.

Blazing Fast Processor

The Kindle Colorsoft outpaces the Kobo Clara Colour in speed, albeit slightly. It’s a subtle difference, noticeable only if you’re really paying attention, but it’s an advantage nonetheless. When both devices are powered up simultaneously, the Kindle displays content just a bit quicker than the Kobo.

The Kindle Store: A Vast Literary Repository

While I enjoyed testing the Kobo—and it indeed puts up a good fight—the Kobo store pales in comparison to the size of Amazon’s Kindle Store. The Kobo store is still excellent, offering millions of books for purchase and a Kobo Unlimited subscription. Yet, it simply cannot match the sheer volume of over 15 million titles available on Kindle. This library includes not only major published works but also a plethora of self-published titles from authors like the hypothetical Susan down the street. If you consume books voraciously, the Kindle might be the better choice.

With my purchase, I also received 3 months of Kindle Unlimited and 1 month of Audible for free, which are perks that other e-reader brands cannot match.

Superior Selection: Kindle Unlimited Over Kobo Plus

Having experienced both Kobo Plus and Kindle Unlimited, I can confirm that Kindle offers a broader array of books, including works from well-known authors and various midlist titles. Unlike the Kobo library, which leans heavily towards self-published and genre-specific titles, Kindle Unlimited includes books from prominent authors like Holly Black, Colleen Hoover, and Freida McFadden. Kobo Plus, despite its merits, does not offer as extensive a range.

Kindle Unlimited is priced at $11.99 for unlimited access to books, magazines, and audiobooks, whereas Kobo Plus costs $7.99/$9.99 for books and audiobooks.
