Gurman also reports that a reorganization of Apple Stores is scheduled for the evening of November 11: “employees will be tasked with updating displays and rearranging products for the following day.” This often coincides with the introduction of new products or a revamp of visual merchandising ahead of a sales event. Gurman concedes that this evidence is slight: “given the timing, it’s more likely related to preparations for the holiday shopping season.”
This delayed product refresh could be out of Apple’s control: the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which tests and certifies electronic devices that emit radio waves before they can be marketed, has been inactive for over a month due to the government shutdown. Until the U.S. Congress reaches a budget agreement, Apple cannot receive the necessary approvals to launch new products in its home market.
The upcoming Apple TV 4K is expected to feature the A17 Pro chip instead of the current A15, along with 8 GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence features. The device is also likely to include the new Apple N1 chip for enhanced Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread network capabilities. A name change to differentiate it from the Apple TV service, which recently dropped the “+” from its name, could also be on the cards.
The HomePod mini 2 is anticipated to incorporate a newer chip (likely insufficient for Apple Intelligence on its own but could leverage the processing power of a nearby Apple TV), along with the new Apple N1 chip, improved audio quality, and potentially new colors that Apple has been testing.
Another upcoming release, not mentioned by Gurman today but rumored in recent months, is the AirTags 2. These are expected to feature a new chip that enhances the range of the Ultra Wideband for more precise localization while also being more energy-efficient to extend battery life. Additionally, new security features are likely, including measures to prevent the speaker from being disabled.
