Logitech G321 LightSpeed Review: Top Performance Without Breaking the Bank!

Test du Logitech G321 LightSpeed : la bonne surprise sans se ruiner
Logitech is expanding its gaming headset lineup with a new, highly affordable, and lightweight model. The G321 is designed to appeal to gamers on a tight budget without sacrificing quality.

The Logitech G321 gaming headset is an entry-level model that builds on the G435, which we reviewed four years ago. Despite weighing just 210 grams, it is slightly larger than its close relative.

Despite its low price, the G321 comes with features that make it an excellent gaming companion. It includes dual wireless connectivity, a retractable microphone, and 40 mm drivers that should enhance the immersive experience.

This new model is priced at just 70 euros, ten euros less than the G435 at its launch. This aggressive pricing could potentially make the G321 a new benchmark in the entry-level market.

Slightly Refined Design

The G321 can easily be mistaken for the G435, upon which it is based. However, the brand has evolved the design of its entry-level headset in at least two respects. First, the headband remains flexible but is now padded with foam to enhance comfort.

The design of this headband remains the same, with fabric stretched between the structural elements. It’s the tension of this fabric that provides elasticity, preventing direct contact of the skull with the structure. The addition of slight padding significantly improves the comfort of the headset.

Another improvement is the size of the headband. While the G435 was too tight for larger heads, the G321 fits perfectly and benefits from the same sliding adjustment system, which is now more resilient to maintain its settings.

With its particularly flexible headband and a pivot system at the ear cups, the G321 adjusts well to individual head shapes. The ear cups themselves feature generous foam padding and a fabric that is elegant but ultimately not very comfortable over long periods.

Despite these improvements and a lightweight of 210 g, the G321 is not particularly comfortable. While it doesn’t suffer from major flaws, it’s hard to completely forget you’re wearing it during long gaming sessions. Nevertheless, the improvements Logitech has made are commendable and do enhance comfort compared to the G435.

All the buttons to interact with the headset are located on the back edge of the left ear cup. Here you’ll find the power switch and a button dedicated to the Bluetooth connection. Lower down, a dual volume control button is situated, matching the purple of the visible cables at the top of the ear cups.

While the G435 featured a fully integrated microphone, Logitech has opted to equip its new model with a rigid but retractable boom. Despite this, the capsule remains quite far from the mouth, but it benefits from automatic muting when retracted.

Modest Battery Life for a Dual-Connection Headset

The G321 offers a choice in terms of connectivity. The proprietary LightSpeed connection is still available, with a rather compact USB dongle that ensures excellent connectivity. We experienced no interruptions during our test and were able to use the headset several meters away from the PC without issue.

A press of the dedicated button allows switching to the Bluetooth connection, which then enables the headset’s use across all platforms. However, it is impossible to use both connections simultaneously, and the USB-C port is limited to charging.

Logitech claims a modest battery life of just 20 hours. Our tests show that the G321 does manage to last these 20 hours when used with the LightSpeed connection at a moderate level. In this regard, the new Swiss brand model does the bare minimum.

Performance Aligned with Its Price Point

The G321 is equipped with 40 mm drivers that provide a decent sound output. It’s hard to expect more from a wireless headset at this price point. While there are no major flaws, the sound lacks precision and balance. There is also a noticeable emphasis on the lower frequencies, a typical feature of gaming headsets. When listening to music, it performs better with electronic tracks than with more complex songs like metal or rock.

Once in-game, the emphasis on the lower end of the spectrum adds depth to explosions and other deep sounds. This feature is appreciated by FPS gamers, even though the lack of presence in the rest of the frequencies can hamper the proper discernment of more subtle sounds. This is somewhat the general feel with all aspects of this headset: it’s far from excellent, but it’s nevertheless convincing enough for daily use.

The integrated microphone, although better than on the G435, lacks clarity. This is due to either too low gain or the distance between the capsule and the mouth, and the output really lacks precision. It’s more than adequate for Discord chats or video conferences, but it performs worse than many competitors.

It’s simply impossible to adjust the sound output of the headset or its microphone, simply because it is not compatible with the Logitech G Hub. Thus, the G321 lacks any additional features.
