The Nacon RIG R5 Pro HS gaming headset is a mid-range wired model primarily designed for PlayStation due to its jack connector. This type of connection also makes it compatible with any device that uses this standard plug.
It stands out with its use of graphene drivers that deliver superior sound quality, as well as a complete magnetic system in the ear cups. The aim is simple: to make customization and repair of the headset easier.
This new model is available at a relatively reasonable price of 80 euros at launch and could be the perfect choice for pairing with the PlayStation 5.

Nacon RIG R5 Pro HSRefined and Customizable Design
Despite a somewhat plastic-heavy construction, the RIG R5 Pro HS features a convincingly solid design. Its headband displays a prominent RIG logo and is equipped with thick, fabric-covered foam, suggesting good comfort levels.
The headband’s width can be adjusted with a standard sliding system that offers good resistance, ensuring it stays in place once adjusted. However, it may be a bit tight for those with larger head sizes.
The ear cups also feature thick padding covered with the same material as the headband. Once fitted, the R5 Pro HS does not provide the expected level of comfort. While the ears are generally fine, despite slightly excessive compression, discomfort tends to develop at the top of the head after a few hours, necessitating a slight repositioning to continue gaming comfortably.
However, we appreciate that the ear cups can rotate 90 degrees, allowing the headset to be worn around the neck when not in use and making it easier to transport. This rotation, along with a secondary joint, also helps to better adjust the headset to the user’s head shape.
This model introduces a magnetic system at the ear cups. Besides allowing easy replacement of the ear pads, which detach effortlessly, the system also enables customization of the headset. “Mod-plates” are available for about twenty euros, similar to Logitech’s offerings for its Astro series.
The most notable feature is the ease of replacing the ear pads, with other aspects being rather accessory and not particularly useful (except perhaps for those who want to print their own designs with a 3D printer). We might even prefer the headset’s design without the PlayStation-branded plates.
The left ear cup houses the long boom for the retractable microphone. This features a ‘flip to mute’ function and is attached to a well-built, memory foam boom that stays in place and allows precise positioning near the mouth.
As a wired headset intended for PlayStation gamers, the Nacon RIG R5 Pro HS connects via a simple jack plug. This is a significant inconvenience for PC gamers: the cable is too short to be used without an extension in most setups. However, a volume control remote is included, which is always handy.
Nacon RIG R5 Pro HSPerformance Worthy of Higher-End Models
Generally, the sound performance of gaming headsets in this price range isn’t a strong point. However, Nacon proves otherwise with the RIG R5 Pro HS. Thanks to the 40 mm graphene drivers and excellent equalization, this headset delivers a sound quality comparable to much more expensive models.
From the first moments of listening, the accuracy and impeccable detail level of this model are immediately apparent. Everything is in its place, detailed, and without significant flaws. Listening to music is a real pleasure, even over long periods, and only the emphasis on the lower frequencies, which are generous but just enough, betrays the gaming ambitions of the R5 Pro.
These features make the headset versatile in most listening environments, especially in games. Immersing in the game’s sound atmosphere is easy, benefiting from a sufficiently broad and defined sound stage. It’s also possible to enhance this with the PlayStation’s Tempest 3D sound or similar solutions on PC.
This excellent performance extends to the integrated microphone, which also delivers more than adequate results. The voice is captured very clearly and is perfectly suited for voice chat. Note that our recording was made from a computer, and the sound will necessarily be compressed when the R5 is used on PlayStation.
In summary: the RIG R5 Pro HS delivers a sound performance rarely found in this price range. It’s a real achievement, and we look forward to seeing what the brand has in store for the coming months and years.
