Introducing iOS 26’s New Recovery Mode
Apple has announced a fresh recovery feature in the release notes of the second beta version of its operating system released last night. The statement included: “The Recovery Assistant is a new way to restore your device if it fails to start normally. It identifies issues and attempts to fix them if detected.” However, Apple has not provided further details. Initial reports suggest that the system requires connection to another nearby iPhone or iPad and then attempts to correct the issues without needing a full reinstallation. For instance, it might install the latest iOS update if one is available.
Last Year’s Advancements with iPhone 16
Back in September, the iPhone 16 already made significant advancements in this area with a system called RecoveryOS. This system allowed for wireless iOS restoration from a nearby iPhone or iPad without the need to connect to a Mac or PC. Unlike RecoveryOS, the new Recovery Assistant in iOS 26 is not restricted to the latest iPhone generation.
