Over the recent weekend, Amazon discreetly increased the prices of most of its devices, including popular items like the Echo Dot, Kindle Paperwhite, and Fire TV Stick HD. This is part of a broader trend of price hikes affecting many companies. The reason, as you might guess, involves market forces at play.
Amazon has adjusted its prices by different margins, with some devices experiencing up to a 60% increase. The company has pointed to the ongoing RAM shortage and rising costs of components as the main drivers. According to a report by Fortune, the more affordable devices seem to be most impacted by these hikes.

The Echo Dot witnessed the most significant price jump, a 60% increase, moving from $49 to $79. Meanwhile, the more premium Echo Show 11 also saw a $30 increase, moving from $219 to $249.
Additionally, both the 16GB Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite experienced price hikes, increasing from $109 to $149 and $159 to $199, respectively. The Fire TV Stick HD saw a modest $5 increase from $34 to $39, and the 4K Max model jumped from $59 to $84.
Surprisingly, Amazon’s Ring lineup of doorbells and security cameras has not seen an increase in prices.
An Amazon spokesperson explained to Tom’s Guide that the company had absorbed these cost increases for as long as possible before deciding to adjust the pricing across various product lines. The spokesperson highlighted that significant rises in the costs of memory and components were the primary reasons for this adjustment.
Still a more affordable alternative
In some instances, despite these price increases, Amazon’s gadgets might still represent a more cost-effective option. This is partly because the general market has also seen similar price escalations.
For example, in July, Roku raised the prices of its streaming devices, with the basic Roku Streaming Stick now starting at $40, up from $30. In comparison, Kindles are now priced higher than similar devices like the Nook GlowLight 4, which offers 32GB of storage for $149.
