Introducing the Latest macOS Tahoe 26 Beta Release
Apple has recently launched the second beta version of macOS Tahoe 26, which now includes a feature that many users have been anticipating: direct installation of AirPods beta firmware updates from a Mac. This update, first noted by Federico Trevisani, eliminates the need to use an iPhone as an intermediary for installing beta updates on AirPods. To access this feature, users can navigate to System Settings > Bluetooth, select the information button next to their AirPods, and activate the new “AirPods Beta Updates” option if they choose.
Enhancements and New Features for AirPods
Following its unveiling at the WWDC, the new firmware, still in beta for developers, introduces several enhancements to the AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2. These improvements include better audio quality for calls and recordings, a new remote camera control feature, and various other advancements. Notably, there’s an automatic pause function for music playback when the user falls asleep, a seamless switch of audio output to CarPlay when the user enters a car, and the ability to keep playing audio through the AirPods even when external devices such as speakers or a car connect to the iPhone. A public beta version is scheduled for release in July, with the final version expected to roll out in September.
