In a departure from its usual schedule, Apple has tonight launched the fourth public beta of iOS 26. This release coincides with the earlier release of the seventh developer beta this evening. The release also includes updates for iPadOS 26, macOS 26, tvOS 26, and the HomePod operating system.
To begin testing iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 right away, you simply need to join Apple’s beta software program and then select the public beta on your device in Settings > General > Software Update. Although there haven’t been major issues so far, it is wise to back up your iPhone or iPad before upgrading as a precautionary measure.
The features of this beta are expected to be similar to those found in the seventh beta, which has been quite stable and introduced only a few new features. Apple is currently making final tweaks before the major launch in September, focusing mainly on bug fixes and performance improvements. iOS 26 will require at least an iPhone 11, while iPadOS 26 will require a minimum of an iPad 8, a 3rd generation iPad Air (2019, A12 chip), an 11-inch iPad Pro, or a 12.9-inch iPad Pro from the 3rd generation (2018, A12X chip).
