Galaxy Z Fold 7 Review: Top 3 Most Disappointing Features Revealed!

Galaxy Z Fold

As Samsung unveils the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the latest iteration only partially meets expectations. Here are three aspects that were somewhat disappointing.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 undoubtedly represents the pinnacle of Samsung’s large-format foldable smartphones to date. This generation boasts an impressive slim design, with a thickness reduced by nearly 30% compared to the Z Fold 6, and top-tier performance, showcasing Samsung’s expertise.

Additionally, improvements such as a strengthened hinge and an IP48 certification, indicating enhanced durability and resistance, are notable. However, there’s still some progress to be made in these areas when compared to more traditional premium smartphones. Despite this, the new model is more appealing than ever.

Yet, despite its high price, there are a few disappointing aspects of this generation. Here are three that stand out to us.

An Unexpected Punch Hole on the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Internal Screen

One surprising feature is the appearance of a punch hole on the internal screen of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. This allows for the integration of a practical 10 Mp under-display selfie camera, ideal for video calls when the device is open.

However, this black spot is now constantly visible, detracting from the elegance that Samsung had achieved by completely hiding the sensor beneath the screen in the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Previously, Samsung used a semi-transparent section of the internal screen for the selfie camera, which only turned off the pixels in use during camera operation. While innovative, this solution was likely costly to mass produce and compromised image quality since light had to pass through the screen’s pixels. Continuing to develop this technology, despite its high cost, could have allowed Samsung to refine the system to a more viable solution.

The Persistent Crease on the Screen, Though Improved

Samsung promotes the new internal screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 as almost crease-free. However, the emphasis on “almost” is crucial. Indeed, the crease is less noticeable but still present.

This slight crease can be felt with touch and seen when looking at the OLED screen’s reflections. To Samsung’s credit, eliminating this crease is nearly impossible with current technology.

The company continues to invest significantly in research and development, which may lead to a breakthrough soon, even if it’s not quite there with the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The enhanced water and dust resistance does somewhat make up for this minor flaw.

Not All Camera Sensors Are Up to Par

When it comes to photography, the results are mixed. On one hand, Samsung finally offers a primary camera sensor that matches the quality of its other premium smartphones. A 200 Mp sensor allows users to capture high-quality photos and videos on the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s expansive internal screen.

Unfortunately, the secondary sensors, the telephoto and wide-angle, still feel mid-range. The telephoto uses a 10 Mp sensor and the ultra-wide is equipped with a 12 Mp sensor. This is likely due to space constraints, as Samsung focused on making the device thinner, which necessitates certain compromises.

We hope that future technological advances will allow the next generation to feature a consistent set of sensors across the Galaxy S range, bringing more unity to Samsung’s offering of premium smartphones.
