Samsung may have developed a method to shield its phone screens from prying eyes. According to the Korean media outlet DealSite, the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to feature a novel screen technology dubbed “Flex Magic Pixel.” This technology would leverage artificial intelligence to “adjust” screen pixels to manipulate viewing angles and thwart snooping. This concept was recently demonstrated at a trade show:

In a statement released last year, Samsung described Flex Magic Pixel as a technology that “adjusts the screen’s viewing angle so that it is not visible to the person next to you and, when combined with suitable artificial intelligence technology, can be used to enhance device security.” The company used the example of a user checking their banking app in a public place. The phone could then “recognize the environment” and activate additional security features, such as obscuring the screen from anyone not directly looking at it.

This innovation would build upon a technology already in use in Samsung’s folding Galaxy devices, which replaces the screen’s polarizing layer with a color filter. This technique is crucial for Flex Magic Pixel as it helps minimize light loss when security features are activated.

While the technology’s effectiveness in real-world scenarios remains somewhat unclear, it is conceivable that the screen would limit viewing angles when it detects sensitive information displayed. Unlike external screen filters, this should not degrade brightness or image quality. Samsung’s wording suggests that the feature may also consider the user’s location when activating the function.
