Even months before its release, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is already generating buzz. As Samsung’s next flagship model, it will be the first to operate on Android 16 with the One UI 8.5 overlay. Beyond the software, the company is also gearing up to introduce a groundbreaking hardware innovation. The goal is straightforward: to enhance user comfort and, more importantly, to boost privacy, which is critical as our smartphones contain photos, messages, login credentials, and banking information.

According to Korean media outlet Dealsite, Samsung has developed a solution called Flex Magic Pixel. Slated for the future Galaxy S26 Ultra, this technology can alter the orientation of pixels to restrict the viewing angle. Consequently, only the person directly in front of the screen can see the display clearly, while those on the sides will see almost nothing. Unlike privacy screen protectors sold separately, this built-in solution does not diminish brightness or display quality.

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra display could make viewing from the sides virtually impossible

Samsung Display suggests that this technology can be paired with artificial intelligence to automatically enable enhanced protection depending on the application being used. For instance, when accessing a banking app on public transportation, the smartphone could automatically narrow its viewing angle. This method goes far beyond a simple physical filter as it dynamically adapts to the detected usage and environment.

Flex Magic Pixel would be combined with the Color filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology, already used in foldable models. This allows for a thinner, brighter, and more energy-efficient screen, while also compensating for any light loss caused by the privacy mode. This advancement could also be extended to future Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 models. While some smartphones have previously offered similar software solutions, like the older BlackBerry Android devices, the hardware integration promised by Samsung is expected to deliver unprecedented efficiency and smoothness. If successful, this innovation could quickly spread across Samsung’s entire premium range.
