While Bouygues Telecom is phasing out its prepaid plans at the end of June, Free is gearing up to introduce its own range of such offerings. Until now, Free Mobile has only offered traditional subscriptions, but the pages for their prepaid plans are already live online.

Three webpages have been launched: one for consumer offers, one for business offers, and one featuring a pricing brochure. These pages were highlighted by Tiino-X83, a regular source of news on Free.

The prepaid plans involve paying for a SIM card (€5) and a recharge. The recharge options are priced at €5, €10, €15, €20, €30, or €50, each valid for 30 days (€5), 45 days (€10 and €15), and 90 days (the rest). Calls are charged at €0.05 per minute, while SMS and MMS cost €0.05 each, and data is also priced at €0.05 per megabyte. After the last recharge expires, the card is deactivated 30 days later, resulting in the loss of the phone number. By 2025, these recharges may not be very appealing due to their high costs.

More Comprehensive Passes

Free also offers prepaid passes. The first one, priced at €5, includes unlimited calls and SMS, plus 5 GB of data in 4G/5G in France and Europe, valid for 30 days. The €10 version adds 100 minutes of calls to international destinations (USA, Canada, China, etc.) and landlines in 100 countries, increasing the data allowance to 200 GB (10 GB in Europe). For €15, SMS to French overseas departments and territories are unlimited, as are calls to the previously mentioned international destinations. Additionally, the data cap is raised to 300 GB (17 GB in Europe). For €20, users get 350 GB of data and 22 GB from Europe and other countries. Lastly, a France/Algeria pass includes unlimited calls in France, unlimited calls to Mobilis mobiles in Algeria, unlimited SMS/MMS, 100 GB of data in France, 14 GB in Europe, and 5 GB in Algeria.

For those traveling outside of Europe, there are several other offers. For Morocco, three options offer calls from France to Orange Morocco customers: €5 for 110 minutes (valid for 15 days), €10 for 250 minutes, and €20 for 600 minutes (both valid for 30 days). The equivalent for Tunisia, targeting Orange Tunisia customers, includes 50 minutes for €5, 120 minutes for €10, or 280 minutes for €20, each with 15, 30, and 30 days of validity respectively. The same options are available for Cameroon with Orange Cameroon: €5 for 50 minutes, €10 for 110 minutes, and €20 for 290 minutes. For Madagascar, the call durations are 60, 130, and 280 minutes for the same price brackets, targeting Orange Madagascar customers. Finally, for Mali (and Orange Mali), the options are 70, 150, and 320 minutes of calling.

It’s important to note that the SIM card is priced at €5, as is changing the card or phone number, but number portability is free. More details are available in the pricing brochure, dated June 1, 2025. Since Free has not yet officially announced this offer, the details might be subject to slight changes. Additionally, the brochure does not mention eSIM options.

In practice, these offers primarily target tourists, especially those not from the European Union. Typically, Europeans with a mobile plan have a data allowance that covers other EU countries, including France. However, for Americans, Africans, or Asians, Free’s offers can be a convenient way to access the internet while maintaining contact with family, especially with some of the passes.
