The opportunity to review the ROG Strix G16 from 2025 also gives us a chance to finally play with the RTX 5060, which will be included in this high-end gaming laptop’s possible configurations. Here is our review.

Design
The ROG Strix G16 is essentially a more subdued version of the ROG Strix Scar series, which typically features a customizable white LED-lit back panel. Here, we have a chassis optimized for performance; 3.08 centimeters thick at its thickest point and weighing 2.65 kilograms. It’s a bit hefty, but the rounded lines of the ROG Strix G16 make it a relatively understated and modern gaming laptop.
Of course, we’re still targeting gamers: the full-circle LED strip at the base of the chassis remains. The build is primarily plastic, with metal reserved for the lid and internal panel. An excellent feature of this generation is the ability to open the back panel easily with a simple slide to upgrade RAM and storage quickly—this user-friendly design was also appreciated on the ROG Strix Scar G18.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The laptop features very traditional chicklet switches that benefit from a much greater activation distance than those found on ultrabooks. The typing and gaming comfort is definitely there, enhanced by customizable RGB lighting and a few “transparent gamer keys” to round off the style.
The touchpad is now huge and well-centered relative to the chassis. Its surface is perfectly smooth and pleasant to use.
Ports and Connectivity
On the left, there is a proprietary reversible power port, a 2.5G Ethernet port, an HDMI 2.1 port, a USB A 3.2 Gen 2 port, two Thunderbolt 5 ports, and a combo jack port. On the right, there are two additional USB A 3.2 Gen 2 ports.
Yes, that’s a lot of ports on the left; the side seems fully utilized. A full-size SD card reader would have been appreciated, but it’s tough to argue against such a variety of connections available directly on the chassis.
Webcam and Audio
The ROG Strix G16 from 2025 features a simple 1080p webcam sensor, which is neither particularly good nor bad. The processing isn’t on par with Qualcomm chips but is adequate for video conferencing.
Regarding audio, the setup isn’t very impressive. There are 1W speakers on each side of the computer, not facing the user. These don’t deliver particularly crisp sound, lacking both bass and control of high frequencies. They are average at best.
Display
The ROG Strix G16 from 2025 boasts a 16-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and supports up to a 240 Hz refresh rate. It also features an anti-reflective treatment.
Under our test rig with Portrait Displays’ Calman Color Calibration software, we found a coverage of 149% of the sRGB space and 100% of the DCI-P3 space. The maximum brightness was measured at 549 cd/m²—excellent for an IPS LCD gaming panel—with a very good contrast ratio of 1454:1. The average color temperature was measured at 6290K, slightly warmer than the ideal 6500K standard.
The average Delta E00 measured was 1.25 with a maximum deviation of 2.73 on the yellow-orange tones. This is simply perfect, as both measurements are below the desired score of 3. The only “weakness” of the ROG Strix G16 from 2025 is that it’s not fully HDR compatible. It touts its Dolby Vision HDR compatibility even though it’s only capable of video playback, and that’s it.
Software
At home with Asus, this means we need to bid a quick hello (and immediate goodbye) to McAfee, which, as we remember, isn’t so much an antivirus as a pre-installed advertisement on your configuration. Uninstall it quickly.
Otherwise, the MyAsus / Armoury Crate duo is still there. The former manages computer updates, the latter fine-tunes performance settings. Both work well, though a merger of functionalities could be practical.
Performance
In our test configuration, the ROG Strix G16 from 2025 features an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX SoC with 24 cores—8 performance, 16 efficient—and 24 threads that can turbo up to 5.4 GHz. It is paired with 32 GB of DDR5 RAM at 5600 MHz and 1 TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. Most notably, we have the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 mobile at its maximum TGP of 115W.
Benchmarks
On Cinebench 2024, we see scores of 2004 points in multi-core and 135 points in single-core. There’s nothing to complain about: the chip is one of the most powerful available on laptops today, pending AMD’s response.
On 3DMark, we see scores of 3170 points on Speed Way and 2470 points on Steel Nomad. These scores place the mobile RTX 5060 essentially at the same level as a desktop RTX 4060 Ti, which is promising but not groundbreaking.
Regarding storage, we see the expected performances of the PCIe 4.0 generation.
In-game Performance
Given the mobile RTX 5060’s performance profile, we opted to use 1080p resolution rather than the more complex native resolution here.
It’s hard not to be pleased with these numbers, especially the very good management of ray-tracing performance considering the actual size of this chip. While the ROG Strix G16 has the capacity to handle much more, it still benefits from integrating this mobile RTX 5060 for a reason we’ll discuss just below…
For Creatives
Whether it’s performance in photo and video editing, or performance on the 3D creation software Blender, we’re still looking at performance close to a desktop RTX 4060 Ti.
Cooling and Noise
Here lies the real advantage of integrating a mobile RTX 5060 into a chassis like the Asus ROG Strix G16 from 2025: silence. Even when launched at full power, the gaming PC doesn’t make much noise and is more reminiscent of an ultraportable launched at full power than anything else. Small fans that are heard without disturbing, a background noise, so to speak.
Battery Life
The ROG Strix G16 from 2025 includes a large 90 Wh battery, which is charged via a 280W power supply with a proprietary reversible plug. The computer is also compatible with Power Delivery.
In office use, with the screen set to 50% brightness, we find a battery life of between 8 and 9 hours, quite engaging for a gaming laptop. The category is typically accustomed to a maximum of 3/4 hours, so we applaud the efforts of Intel and NVIDIA in this area, who between the evolution of mobile chips and the Advanced Optimus label can truly make the most of portable configurations.
