Figma has recently launched a native AI agent within its Figma Design platform, designed to generate layers, explore creative directions, and automate repetitive tasks directly on the collaborative canvas.

This Thursday, Figma introduced its own AI agent, built directly into the tool. Tailored for product design, it leverages the components, variables, and design systems of each team to produce outcomes that align with established standards. This assistant could significantly cut down the time spent on low-value-added tasks.
An AI Agent Integrated Directly into the Workspace
The uniqueness of the Figma agent lies in its mode of integration. It operates directly within the collaborative workspace, in the same file as the team, without any need for changing tools or separate configurations. The underlying models have been finely tuned specifically for Figma, enabling them to understand product design concepts, interface conventions, and specific use cases native to the platform.

As software creation becomes more accessible, what matters most is setting the direction: deciding what to work on, how it should function, and what experience to offer, stated Loredana Crisan, chief design officer at Figma.
The AI agent is thus directly accessible in Figma, from the left menu of the Figma Design interface, or by starting a prompt from any selected layer by clicking the associated symbol. It is possible to launch multiple instances simultaneously and switch between AI assistance and direct manipulation at any time. Specifically, the AI agent can:
- Explore creative directions: generate multiple stylistic variants or information architectures from a single prompt, relying on the components and tokens from the team’s library,
- Automate bulk modifications: update typography across an entire file, replace lorem ipsum text with realistic content, switch components to their active state, convert designs to dark mode,
- Manage the design system documentation: generate documentation, update component descriptions and use cases en masse, standardize naming conventions across a library,
- Process feedback: synthesize comments from a critique session, identify recurring themes, and propose revisions incorporating the feedback.
This launch extends the strategy of opening up the canvas that began last March, when Figma introduced the use_figma tool to allow third-party agents, such as Claude Code or Codex, to write directly in design files via its MCP server.
An Intelligent Assistant for Design and Product Teams
The AI agent in Figma, which functions almost more as an AI collaborator, could greatly ease the workload for design and product teams. For designers, the agent reduces the time spent on valueless tasks: renaming variables, applying a state to a series of components, envisioning frames with realistic content, documenting states and variants. These tasks can now be executed via a prompt, allowing focus to remain on creative decisions.
For broader product teams, such as product managers or marketing heads, the agent provides direct access to design creation without the need for a designer. This tool thus allows for better presentation of ideas with concrete realizations, without resource loss.
The AI agent also offers an interesting workflow, as it integrates with Figma Make. Thus, teams can explore directions with the agent in Figma Design, then switch to Make to transform designs into interactive prototypes and test their behavior.
How to Access Figma’s AI Agent?
The AI agent is being gradually rolled out in beta within Figma Design. During this period, it does not consume AI credits. The feature is available to users with a Full license, on Professional, Organization, and Enterprise plans.
Users interested in testing the agent in advance can join the waiting list accessible via this link. The company indicates that the models function in multiple languages, with an optimized experience for American English at this stage.
