Apple to Phase Out Rosetta 2 in macOS 28: Major Changes Coming in Two Years

Apple prévoit la fin partielle de Rosetta 2 avec macOS 28 dans deux ans
The end is nigh for Intel’s software support on Mac. Following the unveiling of macOS Tahoe 26 last night, Apple has announced that this will be the last version of macOS that will still support certain Macs with Intel processors. To install macOS 27 next year, users will need to have a Mac equipped with an Apple Silicon chip.

For now, it is still possible to run software designed for Intel’s x86 architecture using Rosetta 2, which translates applications on-the-fly for Apple Silicon chips. This support will continue with macOS 27 next year, but Apple has stated that it will start to phase out its functionality with macOS 28 in two years: only certain games will then be supported: “Beyond this date, we will maintain a subset of Rosetta features designed to support older, unmaintained games that rely on Intel frameworks.” The clock is ticking.
