For now, it is still possible to run software designed for Intel’s x86 architecture using Rosetta 2, which translates applications on-the-fly for Apple Silicon chips. This support will continue with macOS 27 next year, but Apple has stated that it will start to phase out its functionality with macOS 28 in two years: only certain games will then be supported: “Beyond this date, we will maintain a subset of Rosetta features designed to support older, unmaintained games that rely on Intel frameworks.” The clock is ticking.
