Apple’s First Smart Display Delayed to 2026: No New Siri Update Yet!

Apple saura-t-elle se faire une place dans votre salon ?

Apple’s dedicated smart home display project has been delayed. While speculations had previously suggested that this new device might debut in early 2025, no unveiling occurred at the start of the year. In his latest newsletter, Mark Gurman suggests that nothing should be expected for 2025 anymore; instead, the release is anticipated to occur in 2026 alongside the launch of the new Siri.

Just to recap, this connected screen is perceived as a hybrid between an iPad and a HomePod, aiming to challenge Amazon’s Echo lineup. It is expected to feature a 7″ screen with a camera, powered by an A18 chip. The device would be capable of controlling HomeKit devices and making FaceTime calls. Its user interface is described as a midway point between the iPhone’s “Standby” mode and the grid layout of the Home app.

Many of the device’s interactions would rely on Siri… which presents a challenge, as Apple has been struggling with its voice assistant. Mark Gurman has reported that the product’s launch was postponed due to delays in the rollout of the revamped Siri, initially expected in iOS 18.4. The updated Siri was supposed to be able to search through the user’s personal data while leveraging information displayed on the screen. Given that the new device is designed to be primarily voice-controlled, it’s understandable that Apple had to delay its hardware release.

The integration between the assistant and the system hinges on a new version of App Intents, which has also been delayed. Rumor has it that this major Siri overhaul is slated for iOS 26.4, likely around March 2026.
