Apple’s First Smart Glasses Face Delays

According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple’s initial foray into smart glasses has encountered development delays. Originally, the tech giant aimed to unveil these innovative glasses by the end of 2026, with a market launch slated for early the following year. However, it now appears that the release date has been pushed back to the end of 2027. One of the main concerns causing the delay is the advancement of the visual recognition technology, which is critical to the product’s success. If this technology does not meet high expectations, it could significantly diminish the appeal of the glasses.

Features and Functionality of Apple’s Smart Glasses

The first iteration of Apple’s smart glasses is expected to be notably screenless and will heavily rely on Siri for a range of functionalities, including making calls, listening to music, taking photos, and activating visual recognition features. Apple envisions that these glasses will eventually transition into a medical device and incorporate augmented reality technologies designed to enhance vision.

Design Innovations in Testing

Apple is currently experimenting with four distinct designs, each featuring unique design elements. Mark Gurman highlighted that the initial models of Apple’s glasses would be recognizable by their oval cameras, unusual color schemes, and a variety of frame options. Although the integration of display screens is planned, this feature is not expected to be introduced until at least 2029, as previously noted by Gurman last year.
