Apple’s Initial Plans for Health and Fitness Features in the Apple Vision Pro
Apple had originally planned to incorporate health and fitness functionalities into its Apple Vision Pro headset. The company aimed to integrate a version of Apple Fitness+ that would operate within the headset itself, according to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. However, these plans were eventually scrapped due to technical challenges and the excessive weight of the headset.
The Future of Smart Glasses
By the end of next year, the launch of smart glasses is seen as a new venture that Apple is eager to capitalize on. Although these glasses would lack a display, they are expected to be equipped with sensors that can track the user’s movements. However, this feature might not be included in the product’s first generation. Mark Gurman noted a job listing from Apple’s Vision Products group for a “Strategic Product Design Lead,” confirming both Apple’s intentions and the project’s early stage.
Job Opening Reveals Broader Vision
Apple is seeking an individual to “define the future of health, wellness, and fitness experiences across the entire Vision product line.” This role involves translating “still vague opportunities at the intersection of spatial computing, wearable technology, consumer health, and human behavior” into a clear product direction. The ideal candidate should have “experience in developing and validating digital health or fitness products” and a “solid understanding of sensor-based experiences.” Gurman interprets this to mean that “Apple wants its glasses to join AirPods and the Apple Watch as devices dedicated to health and fitness.”
