Apple’s First Smart Glasses: An Accelerated Launch Timeline

The development of Apple’s inaugural smart glasses is gaining momentum, with the tech giant now aiming for a release by the end of 2026, according to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. Apple plans to initiate extensive test productions with its Asian subcontractors by the end of this year, indicating that the hardware aspects of the device are nearing completion. This timeline is a year ahead of the previously mentioned schedule also reported by Gurman.

Design and Features of the Initial Models

The initial designs of these smart glasses will likely follow the basic design principles seen in Meta’s Ray-Ban frames, which do not include screens on the lenses. Instead, Apple’s version will incorporate cameras for visual recognition capabilities under Apple Intelligence as well as video recording features. Additionally, an integrated audio system will potentially eliminate the need for separate devices like AirPods. The glasses will also include a new, ultra-compact chip designed to offer both lightweight frames and extended battery life. While Apple is also reportedly working on models with augmented reality displays, these are still several years away from being market-ready.
