Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform X, has faced significant criticism in recent years for decreasing both the user base and the revenue of the project. However, he may now be able to demonstrate to his critics that his recent strategies have ultimately been successful.
Despite accusations that X facilitates the spread of misinformation, a new study by Reuters indicates that the platform continues to be regarded as a credible source of information by many users.
Declining Advertising Revenues
Since Elon Musk acquired X, he appears committed to restoring the platform’s profitability by any means necessary. With a 79% decrease in valuation in less than two years, as revealed in February, the exodus of advertisers has significantly contributed to this sharp decline.
While advertising previously accounted for 90% of the platform’s $5 billion annual revenue, it now represents only 60%. However, it seems that this trend is finally reversing, and X may be exploring new monetization strategies…

Can AI Save X’s Revenues?
Although Grok is still far from surpassing OpenAI in terms of user numbers, Elon Musk’s decision to integrate his artificial intelligence into the social network seems to be yielding results.
An analysis by AppFigures suggests that the launch of Grok 4 and its pricing plans, which go up to $300 per month, have already had an impact on the company’s revenue. For instance, Grok’s gross revenues on iOS have reached $419,000, up from just $99,000 before the launch of Grok 4.
A Model in Constant Evolution?
This encouraging increase of 325% does not allow X to rest on its laurels. According to figures from AppFigures, the app’s downloads have also surged, from 52,000 to 197,000 downloads following the launch, likely spurred by Elon Musk’s announcements and the surrounding communication about the LLM.
Reviewing data from the App Store in the United States, it’s evident that Grok has risen to third place overall, and even to second place in the “Productivity” category. However, the novelty effect appears to have worn off quickly, as the app is now ranked 17th… until the next update?
