Elon Musk is far from done with X, and following last week’s launch of Grokipedia, the social network’s owner discussed the future directions of what he calls his “super app” during recent interviews with Joe Rogan and the All-In podcast.

From artificial intelligence to new communication tools and enhancing user experience, his vision of an “everything app” appears to be taking shape, although it remains largely conceptual at this stage.

Revamping the “Following” Tab with Grok

Among the upcoming features, Elon Musk announced a completely redesigned “Following” tab. This stream aims to offer a more organized version of the news feed, designed to better highlight the most relevant posts from followed accounts, using his artificial intelligence technology, Grok.

“Grok will read all the posts, understand them, and categorize them to recommend to the right users,” Musk explained. In practice, the algorithm will analyze each post to enhance its visibility, similar to what can be observed in Facebook’s news feed.

This feature will be added to the existing “For You” and “Subscriptions” feeds, raising the question of potential user overload. However, for Musk, this development is essential for boosting engagement and ensuring that certain content does not go unnoticed.

New Messaging Tools and Semantic Search

Another significant project for Elon Musk is messaging. X plans to enhance encryption of private messages in its XChat service, drawing inspiration from Bitcoin’s security model.

The entrepreneur acknowledges that the technology is not yet perfected but promises to create “the least vulnerable messaging system on the market.”

Musk also intends to launch a dedicated XChat app that would allow users to communicate outside the main network, reminiscent of Meta’s approach with Messenger or WeChat’s functionalities.

This separation could eventually ease the integration of the upcoming XMoney payment service, a cornerstone of his vision for an all-in-one platform.

Last but not least, a semantic search function is under development. Users will be able to pose questions in natural language and receive a selection of relevant posts, whether text or visual.

An Ambitious Yet Unclear Vision

While Elon Musk continues to claim his goal of turning X into a “universal app,” the reality is more complex. The company claims about 600 million monthly users, a number that meets initial forecasts, although revenues from X Premium subscriptions remain modest.

In reality, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX appears to be placing more bets on his other company, xAI, to utilize X’s data and fuel his AI-related projects, although he must primarily succeed in reigniting user interest…
