TSMC : Apple pourrait attendre l'A14, NVIDIA prioritaire sur l'A16 ?

NVIDIA to Lead with TSMC’s Newest 1.6nm Chips by 2027

In a surprising turn of events, it appears that NVIDIA, not Apple, will be the first to utilize TSMC’s advanced 1.6nm chip technology, slated for release in 2027. According to sources cited by DigiTimes, NVIDIA is currently the exclusive customer for TSMC’s A16 process technology. This development suggests that Apple may delay its adoption of TSMC’s cutting-edge technology until the A14 process becomes available, which is expected about eighteen months later. Traditionally, Apple has been the first to access TSMC’s latest chip technologies upon their release. However, recent speculations have hinted at increased competition potentially challenging Apple’s lead, particularly from sectors focused on artificial intelligence.

Apple Silicon’s Next Major Leap Expected in 2026

The next significant advancement in Apple Silicon is anticipated in 2026, with the transition from 3nm to 2nm technology. This shift is expected to bring a substantial improvement in energy efficiency for Apple’s upcoming A20 and M6 chips, although it will also likely lead to a notable increase in production costs. TSMC projects that this new 2nm process will offer energy savings of between 25% to 30% for the same level of power, or alternatively, a 10% to 15% increase in power for the same energy consumption. Additionally, chip density is predicted to improve by 10% to 20%. These enhancements will be complemented by further advancements in Apple’s chip design capabilities. If Apple decides to wait until the 1.4nm process, similar advancements in efficiency and performance are expected to follow.
