Samsung Display’s Big Reveal
In what is likely the closest thing to an official confirmation, Lee Cheong, the president of Samsung Display, disclosed to Korean media (via Chosun Biz) that his company is gearing up for the mass production of an 8.6-generation foldable OLED screen for a “North American client”. He noted that due to confidentiality reasons, he could not divulge more details. The mass production of this enigmatic screen is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, aiming for a launch in September.
The Not-So-Secret Foldable iPhone
For several months now, the tech industry has been buzzing about the not-so-secret foldable iPhone. Barring any major setbacks in the final stages of production, this device is expected to be part of the upcoming iPhone 18 series, set to debut next year. The foldable iPhone is rumored to feature a 7.8-inch internal display along with a 5.5-inch external screen. The chassis is anticipated to be even thinner than that of the iPhone Air, measuring approximately 4.8 mm compared to 5.64 mm. This thinner design means the device will likely forego Face ID integration in favor of reintroducing Touch ID fingerprint recognition on the phone’s side button. Additionally, the device is expected to support eSIM technology, include an A20 generation chip, the new Apple C2 modem, and have two rear cameras. As for the price, the foldable iPhone could retail for upwards of $2,000.
