Today, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that Apple could face competition from more companies than just Huawei.
Kuo mentioned that his investigations reveal Amazon is also venturing into developing a “comparable product.” He noted that this project is still in its early stages and has not officially commenced. According to Kuo, barring any unforeseen delays, Amazon’s product could enter mass production by 2026 or 2027.
Meanwhile, Apple’s speculated 18.8-inch foldable device that could function as a tablet, notebook, or monitor, is expected to start production between 2027 and 2028.
Ross Young, a display analyst, joined the discussion on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that he has been aware of the “foldable Amazon tablet for some time.” Kuo concurred, stating that Amazon has been exploring this concept for a significant period.
It is unusual to see two prominent leakers in agreement about a potential upcoming product.
Details remain scarce on the exact nature of Amazon’s potential device beyond it being a tablet.
The Battle of Foldable Devices: Huawei vs Apple
Apple’s rumored foldable device is expected to feature a massive 18.8-inch display. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has described it as resembling “two iPad Pros placed side by side.”
On the other hand, Huawei’s MateBook Fold boasts a 13-inch display when used as a laptop. It features dual virtual screens and an integrated soft keyboard.
Despite its high price of 23,999 yuan (approximately $3,330) for the base model, which includes 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, these specifications are quite staggering, even for Apple standards.
Some might argue that Huawei’s XT Mate triple-folding phone is merely a stunt to be the first in the market, with the actual price being less significant.
By 2027, the foldable device market could see significant activity, with Apple possibly entering the competition against Samsung and potentially Amazon as well.
