Apple has tasked Samsung with designing a display for its upcoming foldable iPhone, setting stringent requirements for the project.
Recently, there has been a surge of details about the anticipated foldable iPhone. A previous report revealed that the device would feature a new type of hinge designed to minimize visible creasing. Further details have now emerged through the leaker yeux1122, this time focusing on the foldable display itself.
According to the source, the display is a foldable screen developed by Samsung, which has not been used in any of its own products so far. A key feature of this display is that it incorporates the touch sensor directly into the screen itself, whereas typically, this sensor is placed in a separate layer. By integrating these components, Samsung has managed to produce a display that is significantly thinner than current technologies, achieving about a 19% reduction in thickness compared to the Galaxy Z Fold.
The foldable iPhone could be thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold thanks to Samsung’s screen technology
Samsung developed this technology to meet Apple’s technical specifications, aiming to introduce a notably slim foldable iPhone in its first iteration. Samsung’s efforts to fulfill the demands of its client (and competitor) also contributed to decreasing the thickness of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, set to be released this summer. However, this model will not feature the advanced screen technology designated for the iPhone but will instead include a transitional design.
It is also reported that the color reproduction and brightness intensity on Apple’s device would be significantly enhanced compared to Samsung’s current foldable smartphones. Apple is entering the foldable market several years behind its competitors and needs to justify this delay by launching a product that is flawless.
Eventually, the foldable iPhone is expected to evolve annually. Apple would then release six new models each year: the standard iPhone, the two iPhone Pros, the entry-level iPhone Xe, the iPhone Air with a slim and light design (with its first iteration expected in 2025), and the new foldable iPhone, anticipated in 2026.
