The smartphone industry is experiencing more incremental technological advancements compared to the past. Processors are becoming more robust and display refresh rates are increasing, yet the differences between successive generations are becoming less significant. To capture consumer interest, companies are now focusing on innovative design features or introducing novel functionalities. In this vein, Realme is developing its next flagship device.

According to a video released on the brand’s official Weibo account, the upcoming Realme GT 8 Pro will feature interchangeable camera modules. The concept isn’t about swapping the sensors themselves but altering the module’s shape that houses them. Users would be able to choose from various styles such as a square, circular, or even a more distinctive design that resembles a robotic face.

While the sensors would remain in their original positions, the surrounding frame could be modified similarly to changing a phone case. This feature primarily aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal, allowing users to personalize the back of the device. Realme had hinted at this concept last week, and recent images further confirm that it will be a key feature of the GT 8 Pro. This initiative marks a departure from the more traditionally designed Realme GT 7 Pro and mirrors efforts by competitors like Xiaomi, which has experimented with a secondary screen on the back of its devices.

In addition to the customizable camera block, the GT 8 Pro is expected to include top-tier components. Leaks suggest it will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 processor, feature a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate and 2K resolution. In terms of photography, it would boast a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 200-megapixel telephoto lens. The device is anticipated to have a 7,500 mAh battery compatible with 120 W fast charging. It is also expected to be IP69 certified and equipped with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, solidifying its premium status.
