For a decade, various Apple devices equipped with the virtual assistant Siri initiated recordings without the owners’ requests. This led to a class-action lawsuit in the United States, and now those affected can receive a payment for the incident.
You only need to check if certain requirements are met and submit the claim before July 2, 2025.
The settlement agreement was filed following a lawsuit that accused Apple of allowing Siri to activate unintentionally and record private conversations. According to the website The Verge, the company denied using the recordings for advertising purposes but agreed to pay 95 million dollars as part of an out-of-court settlement.
You Could Receive up to 100 Dollars if You Meet the Criteria
The official settlement website, LopezVoiceAssistantSettlement.com , states that you could receive up to 100 dollars in total. Each individual is eligible to claim 20 dollars for each Apple device that experienced an unintended activation of Siri, up to a maximum of five devices.
This procedure is available if you owned an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, or HomePod between October 17, 2014, and January 31, 2024, and resided in the United States or its territories at the time of use. The form requires you to list the devices you used and to declare that Siri activated while you were speaking privately. The information must be provided under oath.
No Need for Proof or a Code to File a Claim
You do not need to have received a prior notice or have a claim code. Anyone who used Siri during the specified period and experienced an erroneous activation can start the process.
You can file the claim online at www.lopezvoiceassistantsettlement.com . You must fill out a form that includes a short sworn statement affirming that you were affected.
What to Do if You Received a Code or Were Notified by Mail
Some people received a unique identification code and a confirmation code via email or postal mail. If this is your situation, you can enter these details when you start the online procedure, but it is not mandatory to have them.
The use of codes helps link your case directly with the settlement database but does not change the amount you can receive. The site clarifies that all claimants are entitled to the same payments if they meet the criteria.
