A “technical error” is the reason Samsung provided for the cancellation of numerous orders made on its website from Friday, November 14 to Saturday, November 15. Many customers, initially thrilled about snagging Black Friday bargains, now find themselves having to pay more to place their orders again.

This might be one of the best examples of a deal that seemed too good to be true. During the height of Black Friday, scams are not uncommon, as they capitalize on the distraction of online shoppers with significant discounts. However, it’s particularly unexpected to encounter such an issue from a well-established manufacturer like Samsung, especially on its official website. Yet, this was the unpleasant outcome of a rather surprising event that affected numerous online shoppers recently.

The events began on November 14. With Black Friday around the corner, many users visited Samsung’s website and its SamsungShop app in search of great deals. They soon found them, especially on TVs and soundbars, where the prices were irresistibly attractive. Many customers took the plunge, convinced they were getting the deal of a lifetime. Their payments were accepted, and they received email confirmations of their orders. Everything appeared to be proceeding smoothly.

Samsung Turns Black Friday Into a Nightmare for Many Customers

About ten days later, however, the situation took a turn for the worse. Several users received an odd email from Samsung stating that their order had been canceled. The company provided little in the way of explanation, merely citing a vague technical issue. This was inconvenient, but manageable, or so the affected customers thought. They planned to simply reorder. However, by then, Samsung had raised the prices of the previously discounted items. The once-in-a-lifetime deals had slipped through their fingers.

Indeed, Samsung promised to fully refund those affected and even offered a 10% discount voucher for their next purchase in some cases. Nevertheless, the situation remains quite peculiar. Consequently, the consumer association UFC-Que Choisir has initiated an investigation and directly contacted the Korean firm to get its side of the story. The company’s response was that honoring the orders at those prices would have meant selling their products at a loss, which is prohibited by law.
