How long do you really need to walk to burn 1 kilo of fat? Science reveals the answer
Motorola introduces the Edge 70, an ultra-thin smartphone that’s less than 6 mm thick and weighs under 160 grams. It boasts a well-rounded spec sheet and comes with a price tag under 800 euros. It aims to attract those disappointed by the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone Air. Let’s take a closer look.
This year, among the most talked-about phones, two models have faced significant criticism: Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge and Apple’s iPhone Air. These devices share a few similarities, including their slim designs, ambitious specifications, and high prices, starting at 1250 euros for the former and 1230 euros for the latter.

Having tested both products, we noted several shortcomings, such as poor battery life, limited performance, high heating, and restricted camera capabilities. While Apple managed to deliver a fairly convincing design-focused phone, Samsung has stumbled significantly. At these prices, such faults are less forgivable. Does this mean there’s no future for ultra-thin phones? Certainly not, and Motorola appears to have an answer.
Motorola Challenges Apple and Samsung with the Edge 70
The answer is called the Edge 70, the successor to the Edge 60. It marks the beginning of a new series in Motorola’s lineup. Chosen by Motorola, this model is crafted to be ultra-thin and light. The Edge 70 measures just 5.9 mm (excluding the camera bump) and weighs 159 grams. It features conventional materials such as Gorilla Glass 7i on the front, aluminum on the sides and chassis, and a back cover that mimics the feel of nylon. The phone is also protected against shocks, drops, water, and dust (IP68/69 and MIL-SDT-810H certifications).
Inside, the Edge 70 isn’t powered by a top-tier processor but by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, replacing the Dimensity 7300. Motorola promises that this processor is adequate for most tasks, including 4K video capture, and maintains stable performance through efficient heat management. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4’s lower heat generation and energy consumption also contribute to improved battery life. However, the real enhancement comes from Motorola’s choice to include a 4800 mAh battery, larger than the sub-4000 mAh batteries used by Samsung and Apple. This is an impressive feat for such a thin phone.
The Edge 70 Features a Silicon Carbon Battery
How is this possible? Through the use of silicon carbon battery technology. The Edge 70 is Motorola’s first smartphone to utilize a silicon carbon battery, which is perfect for this application. Additionally, this battery supports 68-watt fast wired charging and 15-watt wireless charging. On the front, there’s a standard 6.67-inch AMOLED display, which is exceptionally bright at 4500 nits peak local brightness. However, one downside is that it’s not an LTPO display, which would have further optimized battery life.
On the photography front, Motorola opted to remove the 3x telephoto lens found on the Edge 60 to save space and enhance thinness. However, it retains the three 50-megapixel modules (main, ultra-wide, and selfie) from its predecessor, supplemented by a colorimetric sensor for better adjustments. The dual speakers are still compatible with Dolby Atmos, and connectivity has been upgraded to Wifi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. Lastly, the Edge 70 launches with Android 16 and promises three major OS updates and five years of security patches.
The Edge 70 Launches at 799 Euros, Over 400 Euros Cheaper
With a focus on balanced specs for sustainable battery life and without any real extravagances, the Edge 70 is competitively priced at 799 euros. It is available in one configuration (12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage) and three colors (gray, green, and khaki), which can be seen in the accompanying photos. The Motorola Edge 70 is available starting today exclusively on the Orange website until January 2026 (after which it will be available in Orange stores and usual retail outlets). If you’re interested, note that a discount of up to 250 euros is available, along with a promotional offer of four accessories for 1 euro (retail value of the pack is 339 euros).
