As anticipated, Samsung unveiled its latest folding smartphones. However, in a departure from previous years, it wasn’t just one Flip model but two that were announced alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The first is the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the second is the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. These two smartphones represent different strategies but share a common goal in competing with Motorola’s Razr models. Here’s an explanation of why this is significant.
The announcement had been expected for some time: Samsung hosted a major Unpacked event to introduce new products, particularly its new line of folding smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 was, of course, a highlight, and we’ve provided a full overview in our articles. There were also two smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 8 and 8 Classic, which have been detailed as well. Lastly, Samsung revealed the successors in the Flip range.

The succession isn’t just made up of one smartphone, but two. Indeed, Samsung didn’t just replace the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a Galaxy Z Flip 7. The Korean giant has upped the ante with a Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. The launch of this phone wasn’t exactly a surprise, as rumors of its release had been circulating since December 2024. And just last week, a leak had revealed its expected price range. In short, the secret was out. Yet our curiosity was still very much intact.

In 2025, it’s a Double Galaxy Z Flip or Nothing!
Indeed, launching two Flip models at the same time, including an “FE” version, indicates a strategic shift at Samsung: the need to target consumers who desire a folding smartphone but don’t want to spend over 1000 euros. This customer segment is currently captured by Motorola with its Edge 60 retailing at 899 euros. The Lenovo subsidiary has targeted two market segments with its Razr models for several years: the premium (between 800 and 1000 euros) and the ultra-premium (over 1000 euros).
It seems Samsung took inspiration from Motorola. We see the Galaxy Z Flip 7 priced just over the symbolic 1000 euros mark and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE just below. Here are the prices for both smartphones:
- Galaxy Z Flip 7 12/256 GB: 1199 euros
- Galaxy Z Flip 7 12/512 GB: 1319 euros
- Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE 8/128 GB: 999 euros
- Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE 8/256 GB: 1059 euros
Three notes about these prices. First, the price in France for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is not exactly what was leaked earlier in the month. It is higher. And the gap is significant: 200 euros. Second, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is just 1 euro shy of the symbolic 1000 euros, giving Motorola plenty of room to maneuver. Finally, the price of the standard Galaxy Z Flip 7 is identical to that of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. No inflation on the high-end, which is almost good news.
Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE: A Familiar Offering Reheated
Now, let’s look at the technical specifications and design. It appears that Motorola isn’t the only source of inspiration for Samsung. Apple also influences, with its practice of recycling designs and components in its affordable models, such as the iPhone 16e. Here, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is essentially a Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a different processor. And that’s it. This processor is the Exynos 2400 that you’ll find in the Galaxy S24 and S24+ models of 2024! It’s a SoC that can handle all demands, even in terms of gaming. However, we have some reservations about the AI… Otherwise, no changes. We would have no issues if the pricing was a bit more aggressive. Here is the complete technical sheet of the phone:

Galaxy Z Flip Takes Cues from Motorola’s Razr
On the other hand, the standard Galaxy Z Flip 7 model has undergone numerous changes. They aren’t as dramatic as those seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 7, whose design has been refined to an extreme degree (though not quite as much as Honor’s Magic V5). However, they do significantly affect usability. As had been leaked, the most notable change involves the external screen. Once again, this has been enlarged to 4.1 inches. Similar to the display of the Razr 60 Ultra, this screen covers the entire surface of the phone, even encompassing the two camera modules. This new screen is more practical, and its uses are far more extensive. Samsung was clearly stung when, for two years running, Motorola outperformed in this area. The internal screen has also grown to 6.9 inches. But that’s a minor detail.
Inside, you’ll find not a Snapdragon 8 Elite, but an Exynos 2500. This is the first time this SoC has been used in a smartphone. We are eager to test its capabilities. It is paired with 12 GB of RAM for artificial intelligence. The battery has been slightly enhanced, increasing from 4000 to 4300 mAh. The fast charging power remains the same. The camera equipment is unchanged. The connectors have been updated, including WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The chassis has changed little, with the thickness decreasing from 6.9 to 6.4 mm, while the weight remains the same (188 grams). The IP48 certification is still in place. Below are all the details of this technical specification:

So here are the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and 7 FE, two folding smartphones that appear similar but have very different ambitions. They both demonstrate Samsung’s willingness to reassess its approach in the face of increasingly fierce competition. The influence of Motorola is clearly evident. And we are excited to compare these new Z Flips with the latest Razr models. In the meantime, you can already find a hands-on review of these two phones.
