Lost Your Smartphone? Your Smartwatch Can Now Find It: Discover How!

Vous avez perdu votre smartphone ? Pas de problème, votre montre connectée peut désormais le retrouver

Google is currently expanding the reach of its Find My Device app to include smartwatches running on Wear OS. The update is gradually being made available on Pixel Watch and other compatible devices, maintaining the usual service experience.

For over a year now, Google has offered its Find My Device service on Android, which is clearly inspired by Apple’s similar feature. This service allows users to locate their misplaced devices, as long as they are connected to Google’s network. Until recently, however, this functionality was only accessible via smartphones or through a web browser. This wasn’t very helpful if you lost your phone and didn’t have immediate access to another device.

This issue is about to be resolved, at least for those who own a smartwatch. It has been several months since the announcement that Google would extend its Find My Device service to these devices. It appears that the time has finally come. According to Android Authority, the Find My Device app is now available on select Wear OS smartwatch models and can be downloaded directly from the Play Store.

Your Smartwatch Can Now Locate Your Lost Android Devices

As of now, not all smartwatches have access to this feature. Unsurprisingly, the Pixel Watch is one of the first devices guaranteed to support the app installation from today, with other models like the OnePlus Watch 2R also joining the ranks of compatible devices. If you own a Wear OS smartwatch, it’s worth checking the Play Store right now. Otherwise, it may only be a matter of days before the app becomes available on your device.

Once installed, the app experience should be familiar if you have previously used the Find My Device service. It offers a similar interface, displaying the location of your devices on the network and providing the option to emit a sound alert to help locate them. If your devices are too far away or if there is a significant risk, you can also lock them to prevent unauthorized access.
