The Upcoming Apple A20 Chip in the Standard iPhone 18
According to analyst Dan Nystedt, the standard iPhone 18 is set to feature the new Apple A20 chip, complemented by 12 GB of RAM, confirming earlier speculations. Despite the ongoing memory crisis, Apple seems to have maintained its high standards without making any compromises. Currently, only the Pro models are equipped with 12 GB of RAM; the standard iPhone 17, for instance, has only 8 GB. It appears that the entire upcoming lineup will be upgraded to 12 GB of RAM, potentially paving the way for advanced artificial intelligence features.
Enhancements in Chip Technology
The A20 and A20 Pro chips are poised to be the first in the market to use TSMC’s cutting-edge 2-nanometer process technology, which is expected to enhance energy efficiency significantly. However, the cost of utilizing such advanced technology is likely to be higher, increasing the challenges of managing production costs effectively. It is important to note that the standard iPhone 18 is not expected to be released in September but rather at the beginning of 2027, which is why there are relatively few rumors about it at this stage. In contrast, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, along with the foldable iPhone, are anticipated to be unveiled this coming September.
