Why settle for just one camera?

The upcoming iPad Pro, equipped with an M5 chip, is poised to be a top contender in the tablet market, with production already underway for its anticipated release in late 2025. Recent reports suggest it might feature an additional camera, harking back to designs from previous models.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new iPad Pro M5 will include dual front-facing cameras. This addition means the device will likely have cameras optimized for both landscape and portrait orientations, enhancing its functionality for FaceID, video calls, and selfies in either mode.

The present model, the iPad Pro M4, eliminated the portrait orientation camera in favor of a 12MP landscape camera located along the tablet’s edge, better suited for use with accessories like the Magic Keyboard. However, Apple appears to be reintroducing the portrait camera, previously seen on the iPad Pro M2, potentially offering the best features of both camera orientations.

It remains to be seen whether both cameras will boast 12MP resolution or higher and support FaceID, although the current M4 model already facilitates FaceID recognition in both orientations.

Both the 11-inch and 13-inch versions of the iPad Pro M5 are expected to feature this dual-camera setup. However, the full benefits of this enhancement are yet to be determined, especially considering that Apple’s Center Stage feature already effectively keeps users centered during video interactions.

Additional Minor Enhancements

Aside from the anticipated dual-camera system and performance improvements with the M5 chip, the forthcoming iPad Pro may not introduce many other significant changes.

The 2024 iPad Pro skipped the M3 chip to incorporate the more powerful M4 chip, along with an OLED panel branded as the Ultra Retina XDR display and a design that surpasses even the iPad Air M3 in terms of slimness and lightness.

This year’s model looks to be the debut of the M5 chip in Apple’s product line, coupled now with a dual-camera front setup. While these are the key updates, further surprises may still be revealed, and the forthcoming iPadOS 26 is set to introduce additional features.

The iPad Pro with the M5 chip is expected to be unveiled at Apple’s standard fall event, with a likely release around September or October. Following the previous launch in May 2024, the next-generation Pro-level tablet is just around the corner.

Moreover, Apple seems to have more devices with the M5 chip in the pipeline this year, as leaks suggest a new MacBook Pro M5 among others is forthcoming.
