Significant Enhancements Anticipated for Apple’s Upcoming iPad mini with A19 Pro Chip

As Apple prepares to unveil its iPhone 17 series, including the novel iPhone 17 Air, rumors about the upcoming iPad mini suggest it might boast capabilities similar to the iPhone 17 Pro.

The anticipated iPad mini 8 is rumored to feature an A19 Pro chip, the same advanced chip expected in the iPhone 17 Pro models, as per code findings by MacRumors from Apple.

This represents a significant leap from the iPad mini 7, which houses an A17 Pro chip akin to that of the iPhone 15 Pro. It seems Apple intends to significantly enhance the performance of its next-generation iPad mini over its predecessor.

Rumors indicate that this chip will benefit from a next-generation 3nm manufacturing process, enhancing performance and graphics capabilities. Given the A17 Pro chip in the current iPad mini 7 includes a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU, the new A19 Pro chip might add an extra graphics core, similar to the A18 Pro chip found in the iPhone 16 Pro which includes a 6-core GPU.

Despite other rumors about a variant of the A19 Pro chip with one fewer GPU core intended for the iPhone 17 Air, the iPad mini 8 is likely to include that additional graphics core.

With the A19 Pro chip, the next-generation iPad mini 8 is expected to deliver significant performance improvements. However, that’s not the only enhancement anticipated.

Possible OLED Display in the New Model?

Though the release date for the iPad mini 8 remains uncertain, following the October 2024 release of the mini 7, the new model could debut soon. This aligns with the expected September release of the A19 Pro chip in the iPhone 17 Pro models.

Moreover, industry analyst Ross Young suggests that an OLED version of the iPad mini could launch by early 2026. While some speculate a 2027 release to coincide with OLED MacBooks, the exact timing remains unclear.

Regardless, the introduction of an A19 Pro chip could mean the reveal of the next-gen mini tablet isn’t far off.
