The Original iPhone SE Moves to Apple’s Obsolete Products List
Two years after being classified as “vintage,” the first-generation iPhone SE has now been declared obsolete by Apple. This designation means that Apple’s customer service and its network of authorized repair shops can no longer perform repairs on this model. Those needing to replace a battery or fix a cracked screen will have to seek assistance from independent repair services.

Launch and Features of the First-Generation iPhone SE
Introduced in March 2016, the iPhone SE (Special Edition) was designed to replace the iPhone 5s at the lower end of the market. It retained the same 4-inch screen and body as the iPhone 5s but was upgraded with more advanced internal components similar to the iPhone 6s. These upgrades included the Apple A9 chip, a new 12-megapixel camera, and the FaceTime HD front camera. It also featured enhanced Wi-Fi and 4G capabilities, as well as NFC support for Apple Pay. The model was discontinued in September 2018 following the release of the iPhone XS, with the iPhone 7 then taking over as the entry-level option.
Subsequent Generations of the iPhone SE
Since the discontinuation of the first-generation SE, Apple has released two more iterations of the iPhone SE, both adopting the chassis of the iPhone 8 with a larger 4.7-inch display. The first of these was launched in April 2020, followed by a second in March 2022. The most recent model, the iPhone SE 16th generation, was released in February 2025. This latest version draws design inspiration from the iPhone 14 but simplifies the rear camera setup to just a single lens.
