Discover the Smarts of iPadOS 27: Enhanced Siri AI and App Integration Unveiled!

The launch of iPadOS 27 brings exciting updates to compatible iPads, aligning with the enhancements seen in iOS 27 and macOS 27. This update emphasizes system improvements and advanced AI functionalities. A notable addition is the Siri AI app, which now operates like a typical chatbot, allowing users to interact with Siri more dynamically. It’s not just about asking questions; the integrated Siri AI can execute tasks across Apple’s suite of applications.

Having tested iPadOS 27 since its beta release this summer, I’ve enjoyed a largely seamless experience with this new operating system. While I don’t frequently use AI features, the enhanced Siri proves quite useful, particularly for managing tasks. Parents will likely appreciate the newly introduced safety features for children.

Revamped Siri Experience

With the latest update, Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri, has been significantly enhanced and now presents itself as a fully functional AI app. This new form allows users to interact with Siri akin to other popular chatbots, providing a more interactive and responsive experience. Apple Intelligence, which powers Siri, operates across both server and device environments to enhance capabilities like image recognition.

Siri AI now appears as a chatbot-style app for more interactive conversations.

The dedicated Siri AI app resembles a traditional chatbot interface, where users can pose questions or command actions such as sending messages through iMessage after approval. This demonstrates Siri’s expanded capabilities beyond simple voice commands.

Siri AI is now also adept at understanding context from your screen. For example, while viewing the Tom’s Guide homepage via Google Chrome, Siri accurately described the content displayed, although it faced limitations in accessing the articles directly.

Primarily, Siri’s functionalities shine brightest with Apple’s native applications. It can now manage tasks such as creating calendar events, setting reminders, and playing music. Enhanced integration makes these interactions smoother, with contextual options like “add to calendar” becoming more intuitive.

Enhanced Liquid Glass Interface

The Liquid Glass design element continues to be a staple in Apple’s interface aesthetics, now with added user control over its appearance through a new opacity slider. This adjustment doesn’t remove the Liquid Glass effect entirely but allows for significant reduction to suit user preferences.

Liquid Glass controls now include an opacity slider for improved readability.

Other enhancements include more intricate and diffuse background visuals which improve text visibility and icon distinction. The modifications aim to enhance overall readability without straying from the distinctive Liquid Glass style, which remains a unique aspect of Apple’s design language.

Expanded Child Safety Controls

iPadOS 27 introduces broader parental control options, enhancing the safety and monitoring capabilities for younger users. These tools are designed to manage and monitor the types of content children access and their duration of use effectively.

The updated features include a redesigned Screen Time Dashboard with simpler controls, expanded Time Allowances for apps, and enhanced Communication Safety features that filter inappropriate content. Parents can easily customize these settings to fit their family’s needs.

  • Spatial Reframing: This new feature allows users to adjust and refine photos after capturing them, adding tools like the Extend Tool and Clean Up tool for further photo manipulation.
  • Upgraded Image Playground: Enhancements to Image Playground enable the generation of higher-quality images and the transformation of existing images based on user descriptions.
  • Siri in Notes: Siri AI now assists in organizing notes, whether they are handwritten or typed, streamlining note-taking into more structured formats.
  • Safari updates: Safari now features automated tab grouping by topic and a new notification system for price changes or restocks on watched items.
  • Describe Shortcuts: Users can now describe desired actions, and the Shortcuts app will automate the process, connecting multiple apps to perform the specified tasks efficiently.

As a daily user of the iPad Pro, I find iPadOS 27 to be a robust update that, while not groundbreaking, enhances the overall user experience with improved Siri integration and smarter AI functionalities. This update is particularly beneficial for those embedded in Apple’s ecosystem.

As I mentioned in my review of macOS Golden Gate, iPadOS 27 appears to be a transitional update in anticipation of more significant changes in the future. Nonetheless, it successfully polishes the existing system without overhauling it. If your device is compatible, updating to iPadOS 27 is recommended to take advantage of these new features.
