Google introduces Search Live, a new voice search feature, to its Android and iOS apps. This feature utilizes artificial intelligence to facilitate voice interactions without a keyboard. Currently, it is only available in the United States.
Voice-driven tools powered by artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly popular on mobile devices. With the introduction of Gemini Live a few weeks ago, Google has enabled natural conversations with AI. Other apps are also adopting similar functionalities, featuring systems that can respond to voice commands even when the screen is locked or another app is in use. This new mode of interaction is beginning to take over traditional search methods.
Continuing with this trend, Google has rolled out Search Live, a new feature now available on the Google app for both Android and iOS. It allows users to initiate a voice search directly through the “Live” icon located below the search bar. This service is currently being beta-tested in the United States by users who are part of the Labs program. In France, the rollout may take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, similar to the timeline for Gemini Live.

With Search Live activated, users can speak naturally to ask questions such as, “How can I control my PC from my Android phone?” followed by “Is it secure?”. The AI responds audibly and displays clickable links for further exploration. There is also a button to open a transcript of the dialogue or to enter questions manually if necessary. The interface is designed to be user-friendly, featuring a full-screen display and easily accessible buttons to mute the microphone or switch to text input. Several voice styles are available, offering a more natural tone than traditional digital assistants.
The feature remains active even when another app is in use. It is based on a vocal model derived from Gemini, with voices like Cosmo or Cassini. It can also ask follow-up questions to refine the search. Google plans to introduce a camera option soon, allowing users to show the AI what they see in real time. Although Search Live is still in its initial stages, its full integration into the Google app suggests a gradual global rollout in the future.
