Sony appears to be gearing up to introduce a successor to its highly acclaimed noise-cancelling Bluetooth headset, the WH-1000XM5, which is already regarded as the best in its class for delivering crystal-clear sound in a stunningly quiet environment.
In recent years, Sony has successfully reclaimed the top spot in the active noise-cancelling headphones market from Bose, producing a series of outstanding models. The most recent, the WH-1000XM5, continues to be seen as the premier option available. Currently, Sony faces little competition in this area, which hasn’t stopped them from working on a new version.
According to a report by Dealabs (via Android Police), a now-removed listing on Amazon briefly revealed the new model. While such information should usually be approached with caution, in this case, it seems to have been a genuine mistake by Sony’s official account on the e-commerce platform. The page not only mentioned the WH-1000XM6 model but also listed its specifications, price, and release date.
What We Know About the Sony WH-1000XM6 Sounds Quite Promising
Sony is said to have equipped the WH-1000XM6 with a significantly more powerful QN3 chip, indicating advanced noise cancellation efficiency. This chip is reportedly seven times faster than the QN1 chip used in the WH-1000XM5. Interestingly, it appears Sony may have bypassed a QN2 version in their product line, suggesting a leap in technological generation.
The headset is also expected to feature an upgraded DAC converter that reduces sound distortion and enhances immersive audio quality. To improve sound quality during calls, it would include six AI-enhanced microphones with beamforming technology, addressing the ongoing issue of microphone performance across current market offerings.
Adaptive noise cancellation will continue to be a feature, as seen in the most recent model. Regarding wireless sound quality (using Bluetooth 5.3), the listing indicates support for the LDAC codec and reduced wind noise interference. Features such as “Speak to Chat” and personalized Spatial Audio are mentioned as well. The wireless connectivity will also support multiple pairings simultaneously.
Given the limited bandwidth of Bluetooth, audiophiles who prefer Lossless audio might opt for a wired connection. Sony includes a standard 3.5 mm jack port in this model, which should offer practicality despite the inconvenience of being tethered by a cable in an increasingly wireless world.
As usual, charging would be via a USB Type-C port, with battery life remaining stable at up to 30 hours of listening time. A quick charge feature is also included (3 minutes of charging provides three hours of usage). The device is expected to be priced at €388.43 with a launch date set for May 15, 2025. However, it’s advisable to take this information with a grain of salt as prices and launch dates are subject to change before the official promotional period begins.
