iPhone Handoff on iOS 27: Use Two iPhones With Just One Number!

A small note on a slide at WWDC 2026 could have easily been overlooked, stating: “Switch between two iPhone devices with the same phone number”. This reveals that iOS 27 will allow the use of two iPhone models with the same phone number. The feature hasn’t been widely discussed since it isn’t active yet, but a MacRumors member managed to access it using the Xcode simulator.

We now know that the feature is called iPhone Handoff in English, and it is enabled through the Cellular Data menu in Settings. The system prompts the user to designate a primary iPhone and a companion iPhone. Following a relatively straightforward pairing process, the eSIM is transferred, and both devices are set up to share a single phone number. Below is a video demonstrating the setup.

As Apple warns during the iPhone Handoff setup, “this feature uses your mobile plan and carrier charges may apply.” This indicates that the feature will require specific support from mobile carriers, similar to the cellular Apple Watch, and could potentially be a paid option.

Two carrier files related to iOS 27 suggest upcoming support from T-Mobile in the United States and Deutsche Telekom in Germany. More details to follow…
