For those contemplating waiting until 2026 to purchase their next iPad, this might indeed be a wise decision. Apple is expected to implement significant enhancements in the processors for both the standard iPad and the iPad Air in these future models. These updates follow the well-received M3 iPad Air and the A16 iPad 11.
A report from MacWorld, which claims to have accessed an internal Apple document, supports these expectations.
The introduction of the A19 chip in the new iPad will deliver a performance boost of about 50% over the A16 chip, which powers the latest base model of Apple’s tablet. This upgrade will also make Apple Intelligence features accessible on the most budget-friendly iPad, which are currently unavailable on this model.
The upgrade in processor will also increase the tablet’s RAM from 6GB to 8GB, a significant boost. Although it won’t match the power of higher-end models like the iPad Air and iPad Pro, it effectively prepares the most economically priced model for future demands.
For enhanced connectivity, Apple plans to incorporate its bespoke N1 wireless chip, initially introduced in the iPhone 17 series.
Other aspects such as cameras, design, and display are expected to remain consistent from the iPad 11 to the iPad 12, showing no major changes.
Similarly, the next generation iPad Air will likely feature the M4 chip, following its current M3 model. This progression is logical while still positioning the Pro model at the pinnacle of the lineup in terms of sheer performance.
Like the more economically priced base model, the iPad Air is not anticipated to undergo significant design changes. Elements like the display and camera setups are expected to stay the same. It is also rumored to include Apple’s custom N1 wireless chip, aligning with the enhancements in the less expensive model.
