We Tested the Peugeot e-5008 Dual Motor: Powerful, But Poor Battery Choice

June 6, 2025

On a essayé la Peugeot e-5008 Dual Motor : plus de puissance, mais un mauvais choix de batterie
Introduced a few months after the e-3008, the Peugeot e-5008 also welcomes a new Dual Motors version. Equipped with all-wheel drive, this variant of the family electric car sees an increase in power. But what does this mean on the road? Find out in our detailed test drive.

While some Stellantis group brands are still catching up in the electric vehicle market, like Fiat and Alfa Romeo, others are far ahead, particularly Peugeot. The company boasts a robust lineup, notably its e-208, which continues to succeed even as it faces increasing competition from Renault’s 5 E-Tech, which was the top-selling electric model in France in November 2024. However, Peugeot is not backing down easily.

This is evident as the brand offers a wide range of zero-emission models. This includes the new e-3008, which we have already tested, and the e-5008, essentially a more family-oriented version that can accommodate up to seven passengers. The SUV is now also available in a five-seater variant, but that’s not all.

In February 2025, the French manufacturer unveiled a new version equipped with all-wheel drive, launched simultaneously for both family models, featuring similar characteristics.

This addition further enriches a catalog that now boasts a plethora of different versions of these two electric SUVs. But what does this new variant actually bring to the table compared to the others? We invite you to explore our comprehensive test below to learn more!

Design: Consistently Familiar

Since its first generation launched in 2009, the Peugeot 5008 has almost identically mirrored its smaller sibling, the 3008. This third generation is no exception. We first saw the style of the SUV during its official unveiling in 2023. However, it wasn’t until 2024 that the French manufacturer revealed the superior model that we tested a few months later. This new all-wheel-drive version unsurprisingly retains all the aesthetic elements we’re familiar with.

Thus, the new e-5008 doesn’t differ from the other powertrains in appearance. We see a front face that is highly recognizable in the market, crafted by Matthias Hossann, the head of design at the brand, who took over from Gilles Vidal who moved to Renault.

Borrowed from its little sister, the grille consists of dozens of small facets, which then blend into the rest of the bumper. Just above, we find LED lights connected by a thin black strip. This strip displays the brand name, with the logo at the center of the grille.

They are complemented by daytime running lights shaped like lion claws, and black painted air intakes add a more dynamic style to the whole. In fact, it’s from the side that one can notice differences between the e-3008 and the e-5008. The latter features an elongated silhouette, with a straighter roofline. This particularly benefits the interior space, as we will see below. The family SUV measures 4.79 meters long, 1.89 meters wide, and 1.69 meters high.

These dimensions are slightly larger than its smaller sibling. While the rear window is more inclined on the latter than on our test model, the tailgate remains unchanged. The lights are exactly the same. These feature luminous “claws” and are connected by a wide black strip. Like the e-3008, the drag coefficient (Cx) is 0.28. Finally, this version offers a choice between 19- or 20-inch wheels.

Habitability: Seven Seats and Plenty of Space on Board

The same can be said for the Peugeot e-3008: at first glance, nothing changes in this new Dual Motor version. And the same is true for the cockpit, even in our e-5008. Logically, and frankly, it’s quite pleasing.

The layout has been maintained since the current generation’s launch in March 2024. And of course, we still have the renowned i-Cockpit, first introduced on the Peugeot 208. It has been significantly revamped over the years to reach its current form.

Recognizable by its small steering wheel and the instrument cluster positioned above, it is paired with a large touchscreen, which we will discuss later. The whole remains very high-end, with materials and finishes that are pleasant to both see and touch.

The fabric-covered dashboard adds a warmer feel to the whole, while the very high central console separates the driver from the passenger. It’s a matter of taste, but it helps create a cozy cocoon atmosphere. But where the e-5008 stands out is especially in its spaciousness.

Indeed, the large electric SUV boasts a generous wheelbase of 2.90 meters, compared to 2.74 meters for the e-3008. This allows for an additional row of seats, accommodating up to seven people. Access to the two rear seats is quite easy. They are installed in the trunk and can be folded down when not in use. This allows the trunk volume to vary between 294 and 862 liters. Passengers in the bench seat are also comfortably seated, enjoying satisfactory headroom and plenty of legroom.

Even for taller individuals. The overall comfort is notable, especially since the car also benefits from good sound insulation. Unfortunately, the ergonomics are quite average overall. This is due to the lack of physical buttons, replaced by controls integrated directly into the screen. Moreover, the gear shift lever is placed on the dashboard. This is not very intuitive, especially since it requires a long arm to use comfortably.

Infotainment: Everything You Need

As mentioned earlier, the new Peugeot e-5008 Dual Motor features exactly the same layout as the standard version. And this applies to the infotainment system, which is unchanged from what we already know. Developed in-house by the lion brand, unlike Renault which uses Android Automotive, it offers decent features. The graphics are modern without being overdone, and overall, it is quite easy to navigate.

This should reassure many potential customers, as almost all physical buttons have disappeared inside the SUV. This could pose some safety issues, as warned by EuroNCAP. Like the e-3008, our test model features a few shortcuts, which take the form of customizable virtual buttons called i-Toggles. There are ten of these, customizable according to needs. Naturally, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and the infotainment system benefits from remote OTA updates.

Moreover, the driver can also use a voice command that utilizes ChatGPT artificial intelligence. The new Peugeot e-3008 Dual Motor includes an integrated route planner in the navigation system. While this is only delivered on the GT trim, it could be included in the launch version, as with the electric 3008. Otherwise, one would have to settle for the e-Routes smartphone app. This app helps find charging stations and plan charging sessions, taking advantage of off-peak hours at home, for example.

In the highest trim, the touchscreen is adjacent to the digital instrument cluster, forming a large floating 21-inch panel. This is customizable and displays all the important driving data. It is also important to note that the family SUV comes with USB-C ports at the front and rear, as well as a wireless smartphone charger. Connected 3D navigation is also standard on the GT trim.

Driving Aids: A Comprehensive Suite

Unlike the Peugeot e-3008, the manufacturer has not yet announced a special launch series for the electric 5008. It may possibly be introduced later, but we will focus on the current range for this part of our test. Apart from this potential variant, the family SUV’s lineup consists of two trims, named Allure and GT. Even at the base level, the technological equipment is quite generous. It includes the Visiopark 1 package.

Behind this somewhat cryptic name lie several features, such as HD reverse camera as well as graphical and acoustic front and rear parking assistance. The Safety Plus pack is also standard. This includes a variety of driving aids, such as speed regulator/limiter, automatic emergency braking with collision risk alert, and active lane departure warning. Extended sign recognition and driver attention alert are also standard features.

The GT trim, which tops the range, adds Drive Assist, making it a level 2 semi-autonomous driving system. It combines adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function and lane keeping assistance. However, we didn’t have the opportunity to test it during our brief hands-on experience. If it’s similar to the one in the e-3008 we tested earlier, it promises to be quite effective overall. A more thorough test later might confirm this.

But that’s not all, as the list of technological equipment is very comprehensive on this new Peugeot e-5008. From the well-equipped Allure trim, the SUV comes with tri-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and start, and an electrochromic interior rearview mirror. The GT version adds comfort features, such as a heated steering wheel as well as automatic activation and adaptive switching of the headlights. The hands-free motorized tailgate is also included as standard.

Driving: More Weight but Also More Dynamism

Under the hood, the new Peugeot e-5008 Dual Motor uses the STLA Medium platform, developed by the Stellantis group. This platform already equips several electric models, including the e-3008 as well as the newly unveiled Citroën ë-C5 Aircross and Jeep Compass. In total, it is expected to equip no less than 15 models in the coming years. While this technical base can accommodate all types of powertrains, it is especially optimized for electric vehicles. This new SUV variant adds a second motor on the rear axle, complementing the one already present at the front.

This allows the family vehicle to now have all-wheel drive. An advantage that makes it even more versatile, but which results in a significant increase in weight. Indeed, the new Peugeot e-5008 Dual Motor weighs 2,331 kilos, compared to 2,185 kilos for the standard version with the same battery. Naturally, this is noticeable when driving, although the handling remains quite dynamic overall. This is thanks to the work done by the brand’s engineers, who have modified the SUV’s running gear to limit body roll in curves.

Not only that, but the Sport mode has also been enhanced, to be a bit more sporty than the other powertrains. And indeed, we notice that the accelerations are more forceful, and not just because of the increase in power. Because in its all-wheel-drive version, the car now delivers 325 horsepower, compared to 210 horsepower for the entry-level model. The torque has also increased, listed at 343 Nm at the front and 166 Nm at the rear. This benefits the responsiveness of the accelerator.

The 0 to 100 km/h is now achieved in
