Apple’s Siri AI Launch Talks with EU Continue

It has been almost two months since Apple introduced Siri AI at the WWDC 2026. Initially, there were some public disagreements between Apple and the European Commission, but now, both parties have shifted towards constructive conversations. It’s been exactly one month since Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, and Henna Virkkunen, the Vice President for Technological Sovereignty, began discussing the conditions under which Apple’s new assistant could be launched on the iPhone, iPad, and by extension, the Apple Watch within the EU. The Commission described these discussions as “a constructive exchange on topics of mutual interest, with ongoing work.”

Finding Middle Ground on Data Sharing and Interoperability

Finding a compromise that satisfies the Digital Markets Act’s (DMA) requirements for interoperability while addressing Apple’s reluctance to open up its users’ personal data to third-party AIs appears challenging. However, Tim Cook remains optimistic. In a statement during Apple’s recent quarterly earnings presentation, the CEO mentioned, “we are working closely with the Commission” and expressed hope by adding, “we hope to reach a resolution.” Thus, negotiations are still underway, which is promising, though no detailed updates are available at this moment.
