Siri AI on iPhone in Europe: Launch Delayed, Not Coming Anytime Soon

Do not count on Siri AI arriving on iOS in the European Union any time soon. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the rollout has stalled and Apple may be using that delay to its advantage: the company appears to be leveraging the absence of Siri AI on iPhones in the region as a way to put pressure on the European Commission, hoping that frustrated customers will push back against the EU’s regulatory stance. Given the current state of talks, nothing should be expected before early 2027, and Gurman adds he wouldn’t be surprised if European users had to wait much longer.

Siri AI will gain support for additional languages, French among them, by the end of October — but within the EU this will be limited to macOS and visionOS. The new assistant will remain blocked on iOS and iPadOS, and by extension on watchOS as well since the Apple Watch depends on the iPhone to provide Siri AI functionality. Apple is negotiating with EU authorities, but it is resistant to giving third-party AI providers the same system-level access that Siri enjoys, arguing that such access would raise user safety and security risks.

Next week Apple is expected to introduce three smart-home related products that rely heavily on Siri AI: an Apple TV 4K update that brings Siri AI into tvOS, a second-generation HomePod mini that would also support the assistant (likely via remote or cloud processing), and a new home hub that will introduce an entirely new smart-home platform. Because these three devices are not subject to the EU’s Digital Markets Act, they are likely to be allowed to ship within the European Union.
